We looked at the HiPP Organic range — here's what surprised us
An honest breakdown of HiPP Organic baby food. What's genuinely good, what to watch for, and what the label doesn't tell you.
Short answer Most HiPP Organic products are genuinely good baby food — organic-certified, lower added-sugar than the category average, well-tested. But the range is huge and not every pouch is equal.
What HiPP does well - EU organic certification across the entire range - Low added sugar (usually 0g added, only natural fruit sugars) - No artificial colours, flavours or preservatives - Transparent ingredient lists — no "natural flavourings" vagueness - Strict residue limits for pesticides that exceed the EU standard
This is a genuinely high bar and most big baby food brands don't meet it.
What to watch for - Fruit-heavy pouches: even with no added sugar, the total sugar from fruit purée can be 12–15g per pouch. That's more than some NHS guidance allows for a toddler's afternoon snack. Fine occasionally, not every day. - Rice-based products: arsenic levels in rice-based baby food are an ongoing concern. HiPP's levels are within EU limits but rice shouldn't be a daily staple. - Pouch vs jar: repeated pouch feeding can affect a child's oral development and chewing habits. Spoon feeding where possible.
Age-appropriateness HiPP labels stage clearly (4+, 6+, 7+ months). Trust the label, don't give a 4+ product to a 3-month-old "just this once" — the textures and ingredient profiles are calibrated.
How EggYolk scores HiPP Most of the range lands 75–90/100 for toddlers, 70–85/100 for 6–12 months. Where we flag concerns, it's usually: - Total sugar (fruit-dense pouches) - Rice as a base - Age mismatch for the active profile
