EggYolk (“we”, “us”, “our”) builds a mobile app that helps parents check food products for safety. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

1. What we collect

• Account data: an anonymous identifier (and email, if you provide one) so your scans and settings sync across sessions.
• Profile preferences: the stage you select (pregnancy, newborn, toddler) and any allergies or dietary preferences you enter.
• Scan history: the barcodes you scan, the verdicts returned, and timestamps.
• Usage analytics: de-identified events (e.g. “scan started”, “result shown”) via PostHog so we know what's working. We do not sell this data.
• Device info: OS version, app version, crash reports — used to fix bugs.

2. What we do NOT collect

• Your photos, contacts, location, or microphone audio.
• Any medical records or information we didn't explicitly ask for.
• Data from third-party apps on your phone.

3. Why we collect it

Stage and allergy preferences let us personalise verdicts. Scan history powers the History tab, badges, and streaks. Analytics help us improve the product — no individual scan is tied to your real identity in our analytics pipeline.

4. Who we share it with

Only service providers we need to run the app:

• OpenAI — processes product data to generate verdicts. We send only product information (name, ingredients, etc.) and your stage/preferences — not your identity.
• Render — hosts our backend and database (EU region where possible).
• PostHog (EU) — processes analytics events.
• Open Food Facts — source of product data; we query it anonymously on your behalf.

We never sell data, run ads, or share information with brands whose products you scan.

5. Your rights

Under GDPR and similar laws, you can:

• Request a copy of your data
• Ask us to delete your account and all associated data
• Correct or update any information
• Withdraw consent for analytics

6. Data retention

Scan history and profile data are kept until you delete your account. Analytics events are retained for up to 12 months. Crash reports for up to 90 days.

7. Children

EggYolk is intended for parents and caregivers — adults. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

8. Not medical advice

EggYolk provides general food-safety information only and is not medical, nutritional, or professional advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider for personalised guidance.

9. Changes to this policy

We'll post material changes on this page and update the “last updated” date above. For significant changes, we'll notify you in the app.
